Yellow fever vaccine

The Ministry of Health advises travelers to countries with local yellow fever transmission to get vaccinated before departure. Suriname uses the international guidelines for Yellow Fever vaccination for travelers, as laid down by the World Health Organization (WHO):

  • A Yellow Fever vaccination, regardless of the age at which it was obtained, offers lifelong protection against the Yellow Fever virus. This means that if a person has been vaccinated earlier in life with the Yellow Fever vaccine, no booster dose (re-vaccination) is required at a later age.
  • The WHO-has established that from 11 July 2016 the International Yellow Fever vaccination Certificate is valid for all travelers without regard to the date on which it was obtained.
It is recommended for travelers that are visiting Suriname to bring their Yellow Fever Vaccination certificate along for it might be requested at the airport.
